What is Sublimation?
Dye Sublimation Transfer is a process where you use an image that has been created digitally either by scanning a photograph or downloading a picture taken with your digital camera or an image created in a piece of imaging software like Adobe Photoshop or CorelDRAW and then printing this image with a printer using special inks called sublimation inks onto special transfer paper. Once the image is on the paper you place it under a heat transfer press on top of your substrate and heat the paper until the inks turn to a gas and transfer the image onto the item you are making.
How to care for your sublimated gift.
The sublimated image on your gift is durable and long lasting. However, there are a few things you can do to help preserve the image.
First, do not store your gifts with the sublimated surfaces touching one another for a long period of time. Especially if there is heat and pressure present. These conditions may allow some of the image to transfer from one item to another.
Second, try to keep items out of sunlight or hot areas. While your sublimated gift was made using UV resistant inks, direct exposure to sunlihgt for long periods of time may cause some image fading.
